DISASTER RELIEF FUND
HOSA students at Darlington County Institute of Technology will be sponsoring a Disaster Relief Drive for the victims of the worst flooding seen in 1000 years.
The students and faculty understand and recognize the magnitude of this disaster. Upon discussion of this tragic event the overwhelming feeling of helplessness has driven our students to want to help those in need. We realize there are multiple agencies and groups already organized and collecting items but the students still felt their efforts at our school level could make a difference in someone’s life.
Most agencies (Red Cross/Salvation Army/United Way, etc.) are asking for monetary donations as physical supplies are being handled through large industries. It would take extra time to sort and repackage items to various locations from individual donors. We are encouraging monetary donations but feel that if someone wants to donate physical items we will gladly and gratefully accept them as well. We feel there would be someplace the items would be useful.
We will be placing a rainboot or fireman’s hat in each classroom for spare change and donations. We will send students around at the beginning of class to receive items/money donated. We will count the money and inventory items daily. Items and money donated will be given from the staff and students of DCIT—We will begin this Monday, October 12, 2015.
Thank you in advance for your participation and cooperation with this attempt to help our fellow South Carolinians.
