Clubs, Organizations, and Competitive Events

Darlington County Institute of Technology will offer students the opportunity to participate in student organizations that are extensions of their curricular/career interests.  These organizations provide opportunities for students to gain leadership experience, attend conferences throughout the state and nation, and compete against other students at the district, region, state, national, and international level. In addition to looking great on a student’s resumé, participation in these organizations also increases a student’s opportunities to receive special recognition or scholarships.  Students can join or compete in one or more of the following student organizations or competitive events: 

 

DCIT AMBASSADORS are students who will speak with other students, parents, and the community at large regarding the programs offered at the Darlington County Institute of Technology.

 

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is for students interested in marketing and business.  Areas of competition include Travel and Tourism, Marketing Management, Retail Merchandising, and Automotive Services Marketing.  Students also operate the school store to gain experience in operating a business.

 

Future Farmers of America (FFA) is for students interested in agriculture education.  In addition to the soils competition, students attend state and national conferences and Legislative Day at the SC State House.  They also host a local plant sale each year.
 

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is for students interested in entering the medical field.  Students participate in service projects, attend workshops on the latest developments in the health industry, and compete in areas such as Forensic Medicine, Veterinary Assisting, Medical Photography, and Physical Therapy.

National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) is an opportunity extended to students based on their overall GPA.  Students must meet and maintain a high educational standard.  Criteria are periodically reviewed in order to best recognize deserving students.

Printing Industries of the Americas (PICA) provides graphic communications students an opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity in photography and other areas of printing.  This competition is for students throughout North and South Carolina.

SkillsUSA is open to all trade and industry students.   Areas of competition include Auto Collision Repair, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Computer Service Technology, Electricity, Graphic Communications, Machine Tool Technology, and Welding.
